About us
In November 2003, the government of the County of Aarhus – from January 1st, 2007 re-organised as Central Denmark Region – and Shanghai Municipality signed a co-operation agreement with the view to promote collaboration in a number of areas including science, technology, environment, culture, health, rehabilitation of handicapped, trade and sports to the mutual benefit of both parties.
From the Danish side this agreement was rightly seen as a major break through in terms of establishing an entry into one of the fastest growing and potentially largest markets in the recent times.
In 2006, the County of Aarhus and Aarhus Municipality established a representative office at the premises of the Consulate General in Shanghai in order to promote the co-operation within major target areas such as science, innovation, business, education, health and culture.
With the opening of the Innovation Center, Denmark in Shanghai in September 2007 Central Denmark Region moved the office to the incubation facility at the Innovation Center in order to be closer to the pulse of China’s important areas of research, development and innovation.
The objectives of establishing an office
- To make full use of the good relationship with Shanghai Municipality Government that is generated via the sister-city agreement.
- To boost the existing co-operations that exists between players from both regions – such as Aarhus University’s co-operation with Fudan University in terms of co-operations within areas of bio-technology and nano-technology.
- Further existing co-operations exists within areas of neuro-technology, renewable energy, and rehabilitation within the handicap sector.
- To identify new areas of co-operation within ICT, Health/life-science, and environment.
